TEA CEREMONY ONLINE
Learn The Warrior-style Enshū School of Tea Ceremony
Online With Tyas Sōsen From Wherever You Are.
Worldwide

From Kyoto to the world.
I currently teach learners of the tea ceremony online over ZOOM to students in Belgium, Hungary, Italy, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States of America, and Thailand.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

We will start with learning a basic service of tea ceremony at a table.
This requires the least implements to get started.
It also provides the ideal opportunity to study the foundational procedures that are observed in any service of tea.
The following are a few of the items we will focus on and learn during the first lessons:
- Folding the fukusa and the chakin.
- Handling the tea implements.
- Elementary tea ceremony etiquette.
As you progress in your practice, the natural evolution is to grow your tea ceremony practice and to deepen your understanding of the culture and tradition. This may require you to obtain additional implements to aid your further study.
Watch a sample lesson below:

HOW MANY LESSONS DO YOU REQUIRE?

The tea ceremony is essentially a lifelong pursuit.
Your practice can continuously be deepened as you get access to alternative settings and a wider range of utensils to use.
For an elementary apprehension of the basics of a service of tea ceremony at a table I will require 12 lessons.
According to your progress and access to implements we can discuss customization of your practice on an individual basis from thereon.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET STARTED?

Learning tea ceremony online has its limitations.
Therefore we start with the simplest form of tea ceremony and build up gradually from there.
This also helps with the cost of acquiring necessary equipment.
Tea ceremony utensils can be expensive. Knowing this I will help you choose the right items to get started and can provide the basic implements specific to the Enshu-style at an affordable price.
The objects listed below will be required.
As some can be selected according to your preference and availability, your teacher can help with obtaining other items that are specific to the Enshū school in which we train.
More advanced items can also be sourced for you or assisted with as the necessity arises.

Testimonials
I appreciate his infinite patience and non-judgement so much, and despite me having some pre-conceived notions of very strict Chadō instructors, learning with Sōsen-sensei is both fun and relaxing.
I find the time spent learning tea with Sōsen-sensei is so valuable to my week and would thoroughly recommend to anyone curious or interested in learning more deeply about tea ceremony or Japanese culture in general to try a session with Sosen-sensei!
