A pocket sized (kaichu-chawan; 懐中茶碗) tea bowl finished in a rough brownish “irabo” glaze. The bowl is inscribed with the character for ‘kotobuki’ (寿) which is a wish for good luck and prosperity in life.

This bowl is a perfect fit to carry along when traveling and have your bowl of matcha outdoors or at the inn. And it is also the perfect companion when enjoying brewed leaf tea, brewing the tea directly in the bowl, or drinking the brewed tea simply out of the bowl.

The characters used are old variations of the original Chinese characters used to write the words.
Of the character ‘kotobuki’ (寿) there conventionally are 100 different ways of writing that can be chosen from.
Here the artist has chosen a handful of variations to calligraph onto the utensils randomly through each other.
