Steamed Tama-ryokucha Asatsuyu
Since the bushes from which it is harvested are protected from sunlight during cultivation, this steamed tama-ryokucha from Ureshino in Saga Prefecture belongs to the kabuse-cha category. The Asatsuyu cultivar is sometimes also called “a natural gyokuro” since teas produced from this species tend to offer a brew that possesses impact, a good liquor-color, and a powerfully-sweet flavor. The covering has been conducted according to traditional methods, using woven-straw matting to block out the sunlight and thereby enhance the sweetness in the leaves.
